Six arrested for court attack

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi (JP): Six residents of Panaikang were arrested and named as suspects in the vandalizing of the Makassar Administrative Court (PTUN) building, police announced here on Wednesday.

Chief of Makassar Police detectives Sr. Insp. SM Mahendra Jaya told reporters that the six suspects were identified as Junaedi, Alimuddin, Kamran, Dg. Tolla, Amiruddin and Nurdin Kanna.

"We have identified them as the instigators of the action," Mahendra said.

According to Mahendra, the attackers could be in violation of Article 170 of the Criminal Code.

Soon after the violence, police arrested a total of 56 persons out of the hundreds involved in vandalizing the court building. "In the end we only arrested the instigators."

A huge number of people from Panaikang vandalized the court building on Monday, injured a court official and set a table in a court room on fire. (27/sur)
