Six arrested for counterfeiting

BOGOR: The Bogor Police have arrested an Army officer and five others suspected of being involved in a counterfeiting ring.

Police seized Rp 2.8 billion (US$280,000) in counterfeit notes from the Army officer, Adj. Brig. Robert.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Bogor City Police deputy chief, Adj. Sr. Comr. Bambang Wasgito, said Robert and three other suspects, Momo, Omar and Slamet, were arrested in Bogor. The two other suspects, Hertono and Endang, a taxi driver, were arrested in Jakarta.

The alleged mastermind of the counterfeiting ring, Robi, has been detained by the Bogor Police for the last two months.

Robi was arrested after the 50-year-old Soekarno, a resident of the Cisarua subdistrict in Bogor, filed a report with the police. He filed his complaint after attempting to pay his telephone bill at Bank BRI and being told by the teller that his Rp 100,000 note was counterfeit.--JP
