Situbondo to have refinery

JAKARTA (JP): The construction of the country's first private refinery, owned by PT Asia Pacific Petroleum Refinery Indonesia (APPRI), in Situbondo, a small town in East Java, is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2001, according to the contractor.

Managing director of Daelim Engineering Co. Ltd. of Korea, O. K. Lim, said here yesterday that the refinery's commercial operations were set to begin in September 2001.

Daelim and the Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation of the United States have been selected for the project's engineering procurement construction contract, valued at US$2.3 billion, on a lump-sum turnkey contract basis.

APPRI, which is affiliated with the Bimantara Group and not with the Nusamba Group as reported in The Jakarta Post yesterday, has announced that construction of its refinery in Situbondo would begin on Dec. 2. (icn)
