Situbondo SPPG Secures Local Poultry Farmers to Supply Eggs for Free Nutritious Meal Programme

The Association of Nutritional Service Units (SPPG) in Situbondo, East Java, has agreed to source chicken eggs from local layer farmers for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. The agreement was formalised through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the SPPG Association and the Situbondo Layer Farmers Association at the district hall on Thursday.

Situbondo Regent Yusuf Rio Wahyu Prayogo stated that the local government, through the Livestock and Fisheries Service, facilitated the partnership to ensure local farmers supply eggs to the SPPG kitchens. “Initially, poultry farmers were anxious about egg prices. We facilitated how local farmers could supply the SPPG, and as of today, a purchase price of Rp27,500 per kilogram has been agreed, which is above the Government Reference Price (HAP),” he said.

The Regent added that this collaboration is also intended to boost the spirit of local farmers to increase egg productivity and stimulate the interest of young people in the district to become layer chicken farmers, given the price certainty offered by the SPPG.

Roni Sugiharto, Chairman of the Situbondo SPPG Association, noted that the agreement would greatly benefit local layer chicken farmers and help them increase their production. He confirmed that the purchase price of Rp27,500 per kilogram is above the HAP of Rp23,500 per kilogram. Out of the 49 SPPGs currently operating in Situbondo, 30 have agreed to purchase eggs from farmers who are members of the Situbondo Layer Farmers Association (APLS). These 30 SPPGs serve egg-based menus three times a week, requiring approximately 20 tonnes of eggs.

Fitrah Hafif, Chairman of the Situbondo Layer Farmers Association, acknowledged that the local government’s facilitation has been very helpful in enabling farmers to supply eggs to the SPPG network, providing them with price certainty. The association comprises 60 layer farmers with a total daily production of 5 tonnes.
