Situbondo proposes 36 sites for Garuda Bridge construction under presidential programme

The Situbondo Regency Government, East Java, has proposed 36 sites for the construction of Garuda Bridges, scattered across remote villages, to facilitate the daily activities of the community.

The proposal for the construction of the Garuda Bridges, which is one of the national strategic programmes for the 2026 fiscal year, currently involves the first phase of building 21 pioneer bridges (suspension bridges), Aramco bridges, and concrete bridges.

“Due to disasters at the beginning of 2026, several bridges have been damaged, and coincidentally, there is President Prabowo Subianto’s programme, namely the Garuda Bridge, so we proposed it to Kodim 0823, and alhamdulillah, it has been realised,” said the Regent of Situbondo, Yusuf Rio Wahyu Prayogo, while inspecting several locations in Plampang Hamlet, Alastengah Village, Sumbermalang District, on Saturday.

According to him, the locations for the Garuda Pioneer Bridges will connect two villages through the construction of new bridges to ease community activities and mobility.

Rio explained that the local government, in collaboration with the Situbendo Military District Command (Kodim), continues to coordinate to ensure the community’s needs for better access are met through one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programmes.

“For this bridge construction, there are some areas that have had no bridges at all, and there are also bridges that are in a damaged condition due to flooding,” said Regent Rio.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Situbondo Military District Command (Dandim) 0823, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Ferry Ardian, stated that in the first phase, there are 21 Garuda Bridge sites to be built, with some currently under construction.

“So, from these 21 sites in the first phase of Garuda Bridge construction, 16 bridges began construction in June, consisting of 10 pioneer (suspension) bridge sites and 6 Aramco bridge sites,” he said.

Dandim Ferry added that the construction of the Garuda Bridges prioritises the daily activity needs of residents, including access for students in remote villages.

“The site we are inspecting together today is one of the points where a suspension bridge will be built,” he added.
