The Government of Situbondo Regency, East Java, has proposed 36 sites for the construction of Garuda Bridges scattered across remote villages to facilitate the daily activities of residents. The proposal for the Garuda Bridge construction, which is one of the national strategic programmes for the 2026 fiscal year, has so far seen a first phase of building 21 pioneer bridges (suspension bridges), Aramco bridges, and concrete bridges. “Due to the disaster at the beginning of 2026, a number of bridges were damaged, and coincidentally there is President Prabowo Subianto’s programme, the Garuda Bridge, so we proposed it to the 0823 District Military Command, and thank God it is being realised,” said Situbondo Regent Yusuf Rio Wahyu Prayogo while inspecting several locations in Plampang Hamlet, Alastengah Village, Sumbermalang District, Situbondo, on Saturday. According to him, the locations where the Garuda Pioneer Bridges will be built connect two villages with new bridges to ease residents’ activities and mobility. Rio explained that the local government together with the Situbondo District Military Command continue to coordinate to ensure the community’s need for more adequate access through one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programmes. “For this bridge construction, there are some places where no bridge has existed until now, and there are also bridges whose condition is damaged due to flooding,” said Regent Rio. Meanwhile, Commander of the 0823/Situbondo District Military Command, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Ferry Ardian, conveyed that in the first phase there are 21 Garuda Bridge points to be built, and some are currently in the construction process. “So, out of the 21 first-phase Garuda Bridge construction points, 16 bridges will begin construction in June, namely 10 pioneer (suspension) bridge points and 6 Aramco bridge points,” he said. Dandim Ferry added that the construction of the Garuda Bridge prioritises the daily activity needs of residents, including access for schoolchildren in remote villages. “Now, the one we are inspecting together today is one of the points where a suspension bridge will be built,” he said.
