Situbondo (ANTARA) - The Situbondo Regency Government in East Java is facilitating the local layer chicken farmers’ association to supply chicken eggs to the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) for the raw material needs of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.

Acting Head of the Situbondo Regency Livestock and Fisheries Service, Muh Abdul Rahman, stated that a number of egg farmers have been brought together with the Situbondo Regional Coordinator of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to prepare a cooperation agreement.

“Today, a number of layer chicken farmers have met with the SPPG sub-district coordinator and the BGN Situbondo regional coordinator, and it has been agreed that eggs will be purchased directly from the farmers,” he said when contacted in Situbondo on Wednesday.

Rahman explained that the facilitation between the Situbondo Layer Farmers Association (APLS) and the BGN Regional Coordinator is a follow-up to a Circular Letter from Situbondo Regent Yusuf Rio Wahyu Prayogo, regarding an appeal for MBG public kitchens to buy eggs directly from farmers.

He added that the local government is currently preparing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Situbondo Layer Farmers Association and the local SPPG.

“In the near future, we will facilitate the layer chicken egg farmers and the SPPG to sign a memorandum of understanding, and subsequently the SPPG will purchase layer chicken eggs from farmers according to the Reference Purchase Price (HAP) set by the National Food Agency of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.

Meanwhile, a layer chicken farmer from Kukusan Village, Kendit District, Yunardi, expressed his delight, stating that supplying eggs to the SPPG would increase the income of layer chicken farmers in the city known as the ‘City of Santri’.

“Of course, this facilitation by the local government will greatly help farmers, considering the selling price to the SPPG is higher than the market price because it follows the Reference Purchase Price (HAP) set by the government,” he said.
