Situ Cileunca Shrinks Amid Prolonged Dry Season

Situ Cileunca has experienced significant shrinkage in Pangalengan, Bandung Regency, West Java, on Sunday (23/8/2026). The water level of the lake, which serves as one of the raw water sources for Greater Bandung, has receded by around 40 metres from its banks due to the prolonged dry season. The condition has begun to affect clean water supplies for thousands of residents.

Residents are cultivating farmland on the dried-out areas of Situ Cileunca. The exposed shoreline of the lake appears increasingly wide as the water volume continues to decline. Situ Cileunca is one of the raw water sources used to meet the needs of the Greater Bandung region.

The shrinking of Situ Cileunca amid the prolonged dry season has reduced water discharge, impacting the availability of clean water for thousands of Greater Bandung residents. Regional water company Perumda Air Minum Tirta Raharja previously stated that around 24,000 customers have been affected by a 10–20 per cent decline in raw water supply and has prepared water distribution through tanker trucks and storage tanks in several areas.

The decline in raw water discharge has indeed become a problem in Bandung Regency during the 2026 dry season.
