SIS reviews internal operations
SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has begun an internal
review process to explore ways in which the carrier can shape up
to better meet competition, SIA said on Monday.
The three-month review started in early August, with global
agency L.E.K. Consulting assisting in the evaluation process, it
said in a statement.
"SIA cannot afford to stand still in today's rapidly changing
aviation environment," chief executive Chew Choon Seng said.
"Managing costs alone is not enough. It is timely for us to
re-examine what we do, how we organize ourselves to perform
business functions and how we go about doing our jobs."
SIA said the internal review was conceived before the Severe
Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) viral epidemic broke out in the
region and badly hammered the global airlines business, including
SIA.
At the same time, SIA was also facing a serious challenge from
the emergence of budget carriers that threatens to squeeze its
margins on short-haul flights. -- AFP
