Sinkhole on Jalan Lenteng Agung in South Jakarta Causes Severe Traffic Congestion towards Depok
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A gaping hole appeared on Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung in South Jakarta, towards Depok, on Friday morning (29 May 2026). This caused severe traffic congestion in the area. Kompas.com’s on-site observation showed the sinkhole on the left side of the road, consuming part of the carriageway. Water from drainage channels on both sides of the road was pooling around the sinkhole. Heavy machinery was seen excavating red soil from within the sinkhole. Due to the road narrowing, traffic flow in Lenteng Agung experienced heavy congestion, with jams starting from the Langga Raya junction. Both road sections, including connecting alleys, were packed with vehicles. Motorcycles could only move slowly by weaving along the left side. Traffic from both lanes converged again in front of Hotel Kartika One, which was also congested. SDA officials were repairing the damaged road while other personnel managed traffic flow around the area. Car horns sounded continuously amid the gridlock.
