A sinkhole has emerged in Karangkamulyan Village, Ciawigebang District, Kuningan Regency, West Java. The sinkhole has caused the district highway connecting Ciawigebang and Cihaur to collapse, disrupting traffic flow.

According to reports, the Kuningan Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head Indra Bayu stated that the sinkhole first appeared on Thursday, 26 February at approximately 16:27 WIB. Based on a rapid assessment conducted by the Kuningan BPBD on Friday, 27 February 2026, the sinkhole measures approximately 6 metres in diameter with a length of 4 metres and depth of 4 metres.

The sinkhole has also caused the road surface in the surrounding area to collapse, measuring 3 metres in length, 4 metres in width, and 4 metres in depth. The emergence of the sinkhole has necessitated the closure of the connecting road between Ciawigebang and Cihaur due to safety concerns for road users.

Motorists passing through have been temporarily directed to take an alternative route via Dusun Babakan, Ciawilor Village, Ciawigebang District.

β€œThe road has collapsed and cannot be traversed by either two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles. Therefore, we have temporarily closed access to ensure the safety of road users and have installed warning signs,” stated Indra.

Indra explained that the sinkhole was caused by light to heavy rainfall occurring between 14:00 WIB and 16:00 WIB. The continuous rainfall destabilised the soil structure as it was eroded by water.
