Single identity system crucial for quality elections, says legislator

A member of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Rycko Menoza, has stated that the implementation of a single identity system is an important step towards achieving more accurate, transparent, and high-quality elections. He made the remarks during a visit to South Lampung on Thursday, stressing the need to improve population data management well ahead of the election period. “This issue must be addressed early and not left until the election stages have begun,” he said. According to Rycko, one of the persistent challenges in election administration is the accuracy of voter data, including the potential for duplicate registration of Indonesian migrant workers who may be recorded both abroad and in their home regions. He believes that adopting a single identity system will help produce a more valid voter list while minimising administrative problems during the voting process. Beyond data management reform, Rycko also underscored the importance of continuous public education so that citizens understand their rights and responsibilities as voters. He argued that political participation grounded in public awareness would strengthen the quality of democracy and lead to the election of better representatives. Rycko expressed hope that improvements to the population administration system and increased political literacy would become part of broader efforts to enhance the integrity of Indonesia’s electoral process.
