Singkawang, West Kalimantan - Singkawang Airport in West Kalimantan has resumed flight services as of Thursday (1 October) after flight operations were disrupted for over a month due to haze from forest and land fires.

The Head of Singkawang Airport Service Unit, Ilham Hafizi, stated that flights have reopened after visibility conditions around the airport were deemed to have met aviation safety requirements.

“The first flight will resume operations on 1 October 2026. The air conditions and visibility have improved,” Ilham said in Singkawang on Tuesday.

He noted that the previous decision to postpone flights was made with safety factors in mind, as thick haze had caused limited visibility.

According to him, air conditions in Singkawang City have improved over the last few days. Based on monitoring by the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency) and airport authorities, visibility around the runway is now at a level that allows for takeoff and landing activities.

With the reopening of airport operations, flight schedules will return to the regular frequency previously served, which is two flights per day.

“The flight schedule remains as usual, which is twice a day,” he said.

He explained that the two airlines serving Singkawang Airport will resume operations according to their respective slots. TransNusa is scheduled to depart at 13:55 WIB, while Super Air Jet is scheduled for 14:40 WIB.

For the time being, the routes served remain Singkawang-Jakarta and Jakarta-Singkawang. Ilham advised prospective passengers to continue checking flight schedules with their respective airlines before travelling, as weather and visibility conditions can change.

“We urge prospective passengers to continue re-checking flight schedules through their respective airlines,” he said.

With the resumption of Singkawang Airport operations, it is hoped that public mobility will be restored and economic activities in Singkawang and surrounding areas, including Sambas and Bengkayang Regencies, will be supported.
