Singkawang Airport Passengers Show Positive Growth Trend

Singkawang Airport, West Kalimantan, has shown a positive growth trend in passenger numbers since it began operations in November 2024. Yanuar Lestariadi, Head of the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) Kota Singkawang, said that based on data released by the BPS Provincial of West Kalimantan sourced from the Unit Penyelenggara Bandar Udara Kelas II Tebelian Sintang, passenger movements at Singkawang Airport have continued to rise throughout 2025. ‘The data shows a significant surge in passenger movements reflecting increasing mobility within the community as well as economic activity in Singkawang and its surroundings,’ he said in Singkawang on Sunday. At the start of operations, incoming passengers numbered 397 and departing passengers 406. In the following months, the figures rose to thousands. The growth trend continued through the year. December 2025 marked the peak for the year with arrivals of 8,851 and departures of 8,057. ‘In roughly one year since operations began, there has been an increase of more than twentyfold compared with the initial operational period,’ he added. According to Yanuar, the rise in passenger movements indicates growing public confidence in Singkawang’s air connectivity. Currently, Singkawang Airport serves a single domestic route connecting Singkawang with Jakarta, operated by two national airlines. Although it has only one main route at present, the continued rise in passenger movements demonstrates strong market absorption and opens opportunities for adding flight frequencies or developing new routes in the future.
