Singapore's largest bank came under union criticism Saturday for
axing 435 employees right before the Christmas holiday. The
National Trade Union Congress "is certainly disappointed that
United Overseas Bank could not wait till after the festive season
to retrench staff", deputy secretary general Matthias Yao said.
The first round of staff cuts on Friday followed UOB's merger
with Overseas Union Bank earlier this year. --DPA
