Singapore's Foreign Minister Visits Jakarta to Meet Foreign Minister Sugiono and Other Officials

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan is undertaking a working visit to Jakarta on 11-13 May 2026 to meet Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and several senior Indonesian officials.

The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement quoted from its official website in Jakarta on Monday, conveyed that the visit is part of efforts to strengthen the long-established bilateral relations between Indonesia and Singapore.

“This visit reaffirms the longstanding friendship between Singapore and Indonesia as well as the shared commitment to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation,” the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

Minister Balakrishnan will be accompanied by several officials from the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the visit, the statement added.

Balakrishnan’s visit takes place amid close relations between the two countries in several strategic sectors, ranging from investment, digital economy, energy transition, to ASEAN cooperation.

Foreign Ministers Balakrishnan and Sugiono have previously met several times in ASEAN forums since Sugiono assumed the position of Indonesian Foreign Minister in October 2024, including at the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting for the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on 7 May 2026.

Singapore is also one of Indonesia’s major economic partners, including through cooperation in the Batam-Bintan-Karimun (BBK) region and discussions on the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA).

On 15-16 June 2025, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited Singapore and met with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Leaders’ Retreat. The two leaders reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to deepen strategic cooperation.
