Amidst the challenges of global population ageing, Singapore has reaffirmed its position as one of the Blue Zones, or countries whose populations have the highest and healthiest life expectancy in the world. Based on the latest data released for 2025, the life expectancy of the Lion City’s residents has increased to 83.9 years in 2025, up 0.2 years from 2024. Citing Channel News Asia, preliminary data released by the Department of Statistics (SingStat) on Wednesday (3/6) showed that life expectancy has improved over the past decade, rising from 82.9 years in 2015 and surpassing the pre-pandemic peak of 83.7 years in 2019. Life expectancy data in the SingStat report shows the average number of additional years people might expect to live if current mortality rates applied throughout their lives, indicating the average longevity of the population. Male life expectancy at birth reached 81.8 years in 2025, an increase of 0.3 years from 2024. Over the past 10 years, this figure has increased by 1.3 years from 80.5 years in 2015. For women, life expectancy at birth is 86.0 years in 2025, up 0.2 years from 2024. Over the past 10 years, the figure has increased by 0.9 years from 85.1 years in 2015. At age 65, male residents can expect to live to an average of 84.9 years - an increase of 1 year from 2015 - whilst female residents can live to age 88.1 years, up 0.8 years from 2015. Longevity researcher Dan Buettner and his team identified core factors representing the habits of the world’s healthiest and longest-lived people. He calls them the Power 9. The nine principles are: moving naturally in daily life, having a purpose, maintaining routines to shed stress, stopping eating when 80 per cent full, eating more plant-based foods, consuming alcohol moderately and regularly, belonging to a community, keeping loved ones close, and being surrounded by people with healthy habits.
