Singaporean robbed in hotel
JAKARTA (JP): A Singaporean woman has been robbed in her room at the Park Royal hotel in the Ancol dreamland complex in North Jakarta.
The suspect, who is still at large, told hotel staff he was a 'safety officer' and had to search the victim's room alone, City Police Spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said yesterday.
"The suspect allegedly forced his way into the victim's room at 8:15 p.m. on Sunday night and took a Singaporean passport, a laptop computer and some Singaporean cash," Aritonang said.
He said the suspect allegedly assaulted the Singaporean, identified by the police as Mismanta Delmia, 35.
A source at the hotel confirmed the incident but could not say whether the attacker used a weapon or not.
The source, who refused to be identified, also said that Delmia had stayed in the hotel for about a week.
Aritonang said the suspect learned the victim's identity from a hotel employee when he called and said he wanted to book room 535.
"When the hotel official explained that the room was occupied by a Singaporean, the suspect seemed so upset," he said.
He also refused to have any other room offered by the hotel's employee, Aritonang said.
"It may just have been the suspect's trick to pick a victim."
The hotel's assistant manager, Leonard Davinci, reported the robbery to the North Jakarta police precinct later at 2 a.m. yesterday after he received the victim's report. (cst)
