Singaporean gets 7 years in jail

TANGERANG (JP): A Singaporean was sentenced by Tangerang District Court yesterday to seven years in jail and ordered to pay Rp 50 million for attempting to smuggle 14,840 Ecstasy pills through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

Presiding judge Mokoginta said in his ruling that the defendant, Yeo Wae Ming, 36, was arrested by security officers at the airport's Terminal D on July 30, last year.

"The officers found he had brought with him 9,900 blue-colored Ecstasy pills and 4,940 purple-colored ones," he said.

The defendant had disembarked from a Thai Airlines' flight from Paris via Bangkok, Mokoginta said.

Yeo Wae Ming was found guilty of violating Article 55 of the Criminal Code and Article 63 of the 1997 Psychotropic Law. (41)
