Singapore warship visits Sibolga
SIBOLGA, North Sumatra: A Singapore warship, the Singapore RSS, has ended a four-day visit to Sibolga, which was to enhance bilateral cooperation between the naval forces of Indonesia and Singapore.
During the visit, which began last Wednesday, the crew of the warship worked with their counterparts to formulate a program of cooperation on marine security, the Antara news agency reported yesterday.
The Indonesian waters along the Malacca Straits and off the western coast of Sumatra are prone to smuggling, piracy and environmental pollution.
The ship's commander, Maj. Soh Goat Huat, said that, besides making a program on marine security, his crew also participated in social activities in this seaport city.
Chief of the local board for marine security Lt. Col. (Navy) Ahmad Tarig said the two countries would continue to forge cooperation to patrol their sea borders. (rms)
