Singapore, Turkish firms to team up

SINGAPORE: A Singapore company has teamed up with a Turkish automaker to develop and market armored vehicles for Turkey's armed forces, the firms said on Wednesday.

Singapore Technologies Kinetics and Otokar were set to sign two cooperation agreements at a defense, aerospace and maritime show in Ankara.

The companies will collaborate on the design and manufacture of the second "Terrex 8x8" vehicle prototype, said ST Kinetics.

The first prototype, developed by ST Kinetics, carries up to 11 tons while providing full nuclear, biological and chemical protection.

The second will be able to withstand rough terrain and harsh climatic conditions. It is scheduled to be handed over to the Turkish land forces for trials next year. -- DPA
