The Batam City Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office (DPMPTSP) in the Riau Islands stated that Singapore remains the largest country of origin for investment in the first semester of 2026, with a realisation value reaching IDR 10.89 trillion. Head of DPMPTSP Batam, Reza Khadafi, said Singapore’s investment dominance shows that the economic relationship between Batam and the neighbouring country remains very strong. “Singapore is recorded as the largest country of origin for investment in Batam City with a realisation of IDR 10.89 trillion, contributing around 36.44 per cent of the total investment realisation of IDR 29.89 trillion,” Reza said in Batam on Thursday. He explained that the high level of investment from Singapore is supported by geographical proximity, good connectivity, and Batam’s investment climate, which is considered conducive for the development of the industrial and service sectors. He stated that the achievement in the first semester of 2026, with total investment realisation in Batam City reaching IDR 29.89 trillion, has surpassed the annual performance target in the Strategic Plan (Renstra) with a realisation rate of 106.48 per cent. As for the Riau Islands Province’s investment target of IDR 66.36 trillion, Batam’s contribution has reached 45.05 per cent. DPMPTSP Batam noted that the machinery, electronics, medical instruments, electrical equipment, precision, optical, and watch industry sector was the largest contributor to investment, with a value of IDR 6.87 trillion, or around 22.98 per cent of the total realisation. He mentioned that investors are now not only considering incentives but also legal certainty, speed of service, infrastructure readiness, land availability, and the quality of human resources. “Therefore, we continue to strengthen licensing services and improve inter-agency coordination to maintain Batam’s competitiveness as one of the main investment destinations in Indonesia,” Reza said.
