Singapore rubber quiet

SINGAPORE (Reuter): The Singapore rubber market was largely
quiet at the close yesterday although some consumers were said to
have done some spot deals for SIR20 rubber from Indonesia,
dealers said.

"I heard there was some buying for SIR20 rubber from
Indonesia," a dealer said.

But the rest of the market was quiet, with the Songkran
Buddhist New Year holiday in Thailand sidelining most of the Thai
sellers in the regional rubber market, dealers said.

"It was quiet. Most of the buyers were sidelined by Songkran,"
one trader said.

One market analyst said dealers may be trying to talk down
prices by constantly harping on weak consumer buying. "I think
they're trying to talk the prices down," the analyst said.

Market activity may suffer more when the Eid Al-Adha Moslem
holiday on Friday shuts down markets in Singapore, Malaysia and
Indonesia, dealers said.

At around 0945 GMT, August RSS3 was seen at 115.00-116.00 U.S.
cents a kg from 116.50 cents. July RSS1 was seen at 165.75
Singapore cents (US$1.15) a kg from 167.75 cents. June TSR20 was
indicated at 156.00-158.00 Singapore cents (US$1.08-$1.09) a kg
from 157.00 cents.
