Singapore PM Supports Additional Direct Flights to Indonesia

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong supports the addition of direct flights to various regions in Indonesia to strengthen cooperation in the tourism and business sectors, as well as people-to-people ties between the two nations.

“Our airlines also recently launched direct flights between Singapore and Pontianak, West Kalimantan, last week. We hope there will be more flight connections to various regions in Indonesia,” said Wong in a joint statement with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday.

According to Wong, the increase in direct flights will facilitate mobility for citizens of both countries, increase tourist arrivals, support the travel industry, and expand interactions between the people of Indonesia and Singapore.

“It will allow tourists to enjoy the beauty of Indonesia, support the travel business, and facilitate increased interaction between our peoples,” the Singapore PM added.

Wong also expressed a commitment to strengthening the relationship between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). He appreciated President Prabowo’s role in deepening the ties between the two institutions during his tenure as Minister of Defence.

President Prabowo received Lawrence Wong’s visit to the Merdeka Palace as part of the Indonesia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat.

During the meeting, Indonesia and Singapore agreed upon 28 cooperation documents, consisting of 18 inter-governmental agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU), as well as eight business-to-business agreements.
