Singapore PM Supports Additional Direct Flights to Indonesia

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has expressed support for adding more direct flights to various regions in Indonesia to strengthen cooperation in tourism, business, and people-to-people relations between the two countries. “Our airline also just launched a direct flight between Singapore and Pontianak, West Kalimantan, last week. We hope to see more flight connections to various regions in Indonesia,” Wong said in a joint statement with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday. According to Wong, the increase in direct flights will facilitate the mobility of citizens from both countries, boost tourist visits, support the travel industry, and expand interactions between the people of Indonesia and Singapore. “It will allow tourists to enjoy the beauty of Indonesia, support travel businesses, and facilitate increased interaction between our people,” the Singapore PM added. Wong also conveyed a commitment to strengthening the relationship between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). He appreciated President Prabowo’s role in fostering closer ties between the two institutions during his previous tenure as Minister of Defence. President Prabowo received Lawrence Wong’s visit at the Merdeka Palace for the annual Indonesia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat. During the meeting, Indonesia and Singapore agreed on 28 cooperation documents, comprising 18 intergovernmental agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) as well as eight agreements between business entities.
