Singapore PM Discusses Taruna Nusantara High School with Prabowo
Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong discussed Taruna Nusantara High School and Garuda School during his meeting with President Prabowo Subianto. The two leaders met at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, 6 July 202scale, during Wong’s visit to Indonesia.
In a joint press statement, Wong stated that he and Prabowo agreed to strengthen diplomacy at the grassroots level, specifically through educational exchange programmes.
Wong noted that one such initiative involves student exchanges via the Garuda School, a programme established by Prabowo that is currently operational. “We want to encourage more exchanges with Garuda School so that our youths can learn from one another,” he said.
Furthermore, he mentioned that universities in Singapore received a visit from students of Taruna Nusantara High School, Magelang, in April 2026. Wong stated that Singaporean higher education institutions would reciprocate with a visit to Taruna Nusantara High School next month. “Programmes like this can build friendship and mutual understanding between our nations,” he added.
The meeting between Prabowo and Wong was held under the theme of the 2026 Singapore-Indonesia Leaders’ Retreat. This marks the second occurrence of the retreat, following the previous Leaders’ Retreat when Prabowo met Wong in Singapore in 2025.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the Leaders’ Retreat is a routine agenda between the heads of state of Indonesia and Singapore. “An annual meeting between the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the Prime Minister of Singapore,” Teddy told journalists on Monday.
He conveyed that Indonesia and Singapore signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) during this bilateral meeting. However, Teddy did not disclose the specific details of these agreements. “There will be 26 agreements or MoUs signed later,” said the Lieutenant Colonel of the Army.
Following the meeting at Merdeka Palace, Prabowo saw off Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase. Wong was in Indonesia from Sunday to Monday, 5-6 July 2026.
