Singapore PM Discusses Taruna Nusantara High School with Prabowo
Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong discussed SMA Taruna Nusantara and Sekolah Garuda during a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto. The two leaders met at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, 6 July 2026, during Wong’s visit to Indonesia. In a joint press statement, Wong said they agreed to strengthen diplomacy at the grassroots level, including through student exchange programmes. Wong noted that one such initiative involves the Sekolah Garuda programme, which was launched by Prabowo and is already underway. “We want to encourage more exchanges with Sekolah Garuda so that our young people can learn from each other,” he said. Additionally, he mentioned that universities in Singapore had already received visits from students of SMA Taruna Nusantara Magelang in April 2026. Singaporean universities will reciprocate by visiting SMA Taruna Nusantara next month. “Programmes like this can build friendship and mutual understanding between our nations,” he stated. The meeting between Prabowo and Wong was part of the second Indonesia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat 2026, following the previous retreat held in Singapore in 2025. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya confirmed that the Leaders’ Retreat is a regular agenda between the heads of state of Indonesia and Singapore. He also noted that Indonesia and Singapore signed several memoranda of understanding during the bilateral meeting, though he did not disclose the details. “There will be 26 agreements or MoUs signed later,” said the Army lieutenant colonel. After the meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Prabowo saw off Prime Minister Wong at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base. Wong was in Indonesia from Sunday to Monday, 5-6 July 2026.
