Singapore PM Affirms Long-Term Investment Commitment in Indonesia

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has affirmed his country’s commitment to continuing its investment in Indonesia, based on a strong belief in the nation’s economic future. Speaking at a press conference following a leaders’ retreat in Jakarta on Monday, 6 July 2026, Wong stated that Singapore’s confidence is reflected in its actions. “Singapore is very confident about Indonesia’s future. We want Indonesia to succeed, because our futures are very closely intertwined,” he said.

According to data from the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Singapore remains the largest foreign investor in Indonesia, with investments reaching US$ 17.4 billion in 2025. Wong noted that this consistent investment is a concrete demonstration of trust and brings tangible benefits, including business development, downstreaming, digital infrastructure, and job creation for Indonesians.

Wong highlighted the success of the Batam, Bintan, and Karimun (BBK) region, which is rapidly transforming into a dynamic digital hub. He also pointed to the 10th anniversary of the Kendal Industrial Park (KIK) in 2026 as a prime example of a successful strategic partnership. The park, a joint venture between Singapore’s Sembcorp Development and Indonesia’s PT Jababeka Tbk, is a special economic zone spanning a planned 2,200 hectares. Wong expressed hope that its expansion would attract more investment and create further employment opportunities.

Beyond physical infrastructure, Wong said both countries are exploring new opportunities in advanced technology and the digital economy. He also stressed a shared commitment to strengthening supply chain resilience amid growing bilateral trade and investment, ensuring both nations can navigate global economic challenges and remain competitive within the ASEAN region.
