Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has affirmed his country’s commitment to continue investing in Indonesia, conveyed during a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Monday, 6 July 2026. He stated that Singapore has full confidence in Indonesia’s future because the two countries’ interests and futures are intertwined. Wong said his discussion with Prabowo was open and productive, focusing on various steps to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations. ‘Singapore has full confidence in Indonesia’s future. We want Indonesia to succeed because our futures are interlinked, and our confidence in Indonesia is reflected in concrete actions,’ he said. He noted that this confidence is demonstrated through Singapore’s investments, which have been flowing into Indonesia for many years. Wong argued that these investments are not merely capital flows, but also help create companies, downstream industries, digital infrastructure, business opportunities, and jobs for the Indonesian people. He also mentioned that Singaporean companies continue to see many business opportunities in Indonesia. One example is the Batam, Bintan, and Karimun (BBK) area, which is considered to be growing rapidly as a digital economy hub and continues to attract investor interest. ‘Investor interest in the Batam, Bintan, and Karimun area remains strong. The area is developing rapidly into a digital hub attracting leading companies,’ he said. Besides BBK, Lawrence also highlighted the Kendal Industrial Park, which marks its 10th anniversary this year. According to him, the park has reached full capacity and will therefore be expanded to 1,000 hectares. He believes the expansion will encourage new investment, create jobs, and support Indonesia’s economic growth. Lawrence said both countries also agreed to strengthen supply chain resilience through increased trade and investment to withstand various global economic shocks. He added that Indonesia and Singapore will continue to seek new cooperation opportunities to enhance the competitiveness of both nations and the ASEAN region. This commitment, Lawrence continued, is reflected in the various memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed by the two countries during the meeting.
