Singapore no 1 business city

SINGAPORE (DPA): International business magazine Fortune has
ranked Singapore as Asia's top city for doing business, magazine
staff said Tuesday.

Singapore moved up to the top slot in 1998 from third place a
year ago, when it trailed Kuala Lumpur and Sydney.

This year, Singapore was followed by Tokyo, then Osaka, Hong
Kong, Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne.

The ranking of 25 cities, published in the magazine's latest
issue, was based on 37 factors such as corruption-free
government, education spending and the extent of personal
computer ownership.

Singaporeans' relentless drive for self-improvement and the
government's attention to detail were the main reasons that the
city had prevailed, Fortune said.
