Singapore FM to lead delegation

SINGAPORE (AFP): Singapore is sending Foreign Minister S.
Jayakumar to a planned meeting between ministers of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the European
Union (EU) in Laos next week, the government said on Wednesday.

He is also expected to have talks on the sidelines with his
Indonesian counterpart Alwi Shihab over recent criticisms of
Singapore by Shihab and Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid.

A statement from the ministry of foreign affairs said
Jayakumar will lead the Singapore delegation for the ASEAN-EU
meeting in Vientiane from Dec. 11-12.

It said the meeting "aims to further strengthen the links
between ASEAN and Europe."
