Singapore Embassy clarifies

JAKARTA: The Singaporean Embassy in Jakarta confirmed on Thursday that an embassy car was involved in an accident on Wednesday evening but emphasized that there was no diplomat involved.

"According to the driver who was alone when the incident occurred, a motorcyclist had hit the car," First Secretary William Tan told The Jakarta Post in a written statement.

"As the driver regarded it to be a minor incident, he continued with his journey. The matter has since been reported to the police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," he added.

Tan also said that the driver was an Indonesian employee and not a diplomat.

The accident took place at the intersection of Jl. Diponegoro with Jl. Untung Surapati and Jl. Madiun. The motorcyclist was identified as Usup by www.detik.com online news agency on Wednesday. -- JP
