Singapore clinches gold at Kapolri Cup

JAKARTA (JP): Singapore won one gold and one silver medal at
the seventh Kapolri Cup and 1997 Bhayangkara Cup shooting
championship at the Senayan Shooting Range yesterday.

Ng Peck Yui, Katijah Surattee and Yong Sai Gek took gold in
the women's team air pistol event with 1,087 points, well below
the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games record of 1,117, set by Thailand
in 1991.

Indonesia's SEA Games markswomen - Nuris Melly, Kadarwati and
Desak Putu from police squad 1, and Yohana, Onny Rajaloa and Bari
Agustini from police squad 2 - took second and third with equal
scores of 1,084 points.

In the women's individual air pistol event, Singaporean Ng
failed to win the gold after losing to Indonesia's Sri Yuliati.

Ng finished second with 369 points, while Sri scored 370.
Suwenti, of the East Java police squad, was third with 368.

The results were far below national and SEA Games records. The
national record of 383 was set by Bari at the 1995 interclub
championships in Surabaya.

The SEA Games record of 380 was set by Thailand's Saiphin Yana
at the 1991 Games.

In the individual small bore free rifle prone, SEA Games
marksman Arie Setiatmoko from the Timor club came second to
teammate Adrian Herdianto.

Although they had the same scores of 579, Arie finished second
after shooting 94 in the first 10-shot series.

Rasyid Mursid of the Bimantara club was third with 575 points.

National record holder Gatot Puspoyudo, who scored 587 points
at the 1995 Bahari Cup, came ninth yesterday.

The SEA Games record was set by Filipino Bartolome at the 1989
SEA Games.

In the team small bore free rifle prone, Indonesia's SEA Games
sharpshooters took gold with 1,719 points. The SEA Games record
was 1766 points, set by Thailand at the 1995 SEA Games in Chiang
Mai, Thailand.

The Timor club, comprising Adrian Herdianto, Arie Setiatmoko
and Didi Sanyoto, was second with 1,718 points, while the Kartika
team, comprising Suyono, Sudarmin and Budiyono, took the bronze
with 1,712 points. (yan)
