Singapore awards RI Navy chief

JAKARTA: Singapore has presented its Meritorious Service medal
to Indonesian Navy chief of staff Adm. Bernard Kent Sondakh for
his role in enhancing ties between the two nations' navies.

The medal was conferred by Singapore Minister for Defense Rear
Adm. Teo Chee Hean on Thursday last week, the Indonesian Navy
said on Tuesday.

The Indonesian and Singapore navies have a long history of
cooperation, frequently joining together to patrol, exercise and
take on civil missions.

During his stay in the city state, Bernard paid a courtesy
visit to Singapore Navy chief Rear Adm. Ronnie Tay and Singapore
Armed Forces chief Maj. Gen. Ng Yat Chung. -- JP
