Singapore Asked to Join in Combating Smuggling
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Customs and Excises director-general Anwar Suprijadi said his office had asked Singapore to fight the smuggling of goods into Indonesia. Most goods smuggled to Indonesia come from Singapore. “Many kinds of products are smuggled in,” Anwar said in Jakarta yesterday.
The Customs and Excises Directorate-General is also collaborating with its counterpart in Malaysia so that if smuggled goods are found in the respective countries, the offenders must be extradited and the goods must be returned to the country of origin for legal measures. This method aims at reducing the high rate of smuggling to date.”Such collaboration has only been implemented with Malaysia at the moment,” Anwar said.
