Sinatra gets 20 months

JAKARTA (JP): Judge Abbas Soemantri of the Central Jakarta District Court has sentenced Evry Sinatra, 21 years old, to 20 months in jail for possession of seven grams of cannabis.

The jail term is much lighter than the 30 months demanded by prosecutor Hanief H. Sulaiman, Antara reported on Tuesday.

Sinatra was caught with the cannabis after being arrested for shoplifting at the Matahari Department Store in Pasar Baru last August.

During the interrogation, security guards of the store coincidentally found the cannabis at Sinatra's trousers.

Sinatra said that he had bought the cannabis from his friend for Rp 35,000 (US$15.90) for his own consumption. (25)
