Sinar plans CPO mill in Irian
JAKARTA (JP): Plantation company PT Sinar Mas announced on Friday it would build a crude palm oil (CPO) processing plant and a port to support transportation of its production in Jayapura regency, Irian Jaya.
Company general manager M. Angwarmase was quoted by Antara as saying the plant would have production capacity of 60 tons per day. It will be built in Kaureh subdistrict.
It will process oil palm produced by the company into CPO, which will then be sold to Surabaya, Jakarta and overseas.
Its oil palm production is currently processed at a CPO plant owned by state plantation company PT Perkebunan Nusantara II. However, the facility, which has annual production capacity of 30,000 tons, is inadequate to meet the company's increased CPO production in the regency.
Angwarmase said Sinar Mas also would build a port in Demta subdistrict in the regency for the shipment of its CPO products.
Sinar Mas is developing 22,157 hectares of oil palm plantations in Jayapura, about 13,000 hectares of which have been planted. (gis)
