The management of Sinar Mas Plaza in Shanghai, China, celebrated the first anniversary of the open-air observation deck “The Stage” as a tourist spot for viewing the Shanghai cityscape from an elevated 360-degree vantage point.

The 1,000-square-metre open observation deck, located at a height of 320 metres in the Sinar Mas Plaza Shanghai building, was opened on 15 April 2025, with its anniversary celebration held on Wednesday (13/5).

“I see ‘The Stage’ not only as a modern tourist destination in Shanghai but also as a symbol of the increasingly close relationship between Indonesia and China,” said Adlilah Ciannas, Head of Public Relations and Social Culture at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Shanghai, as quoted in a written statement from the consulate received by ANTARA on Thursday (14/5).

“Although newly opened, the presence of ‘The Stage’ at Sinar Mas Plaza demonstrates Indonesia’s contribution and existence in Shanghai’s landscape, while reflecting the broadening opportunities for collaboration in tourism, the creative economy, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries,” Adlilah added.

Sinar Mas Plaza Shanghai is an upscale complex of offices, hotels, and shopping centres in the North Bund, Hongkou District, Shanghai.

The complex is situated on the banks of the Huangpu River, opposite the Lujiazui financial district and near the main tourist area “The Bund.”

Due to its strategic location, “The Stage” has become one of the tourist destinations for local Chinese tourists as well as international visitors to Shanghai.

At the site, food or beverage purchases can be made using QRIS or Alipay.

Bank Indonesia launched support for cross-border QRIS services on 30 April 2026, enabling payments using QRIS for Indonesians in China or Chinese visitors to Indonesia.
