Sinar Mas-Listed Issuer Enters AI Business, Targets Teachers and Healthcare Workers
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - PT DSST Mas Gemilang Tbk (DSST), a subsidiary of PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk. (DSSA), which is part of Sinar Mas, has formally signed a strategic collaboration framework and joint venture agreement to establish PT Brilian Teknologi Sejahtera (BTS) with AI company iFLYTEK CO., LTD. (iFLYTEK). The partnership represents the adoption of advanced AI solutions to drive digitisation and the enhancement of AI in key industries in Indonesia.
The joint venture between DSST and iFLYTEK leverages locally localised large language model (LLM) technology to promote digital autonomy across Indonesia. Although the primary focus at present is on the education and health sectors, BTS will also expand AI-based activities into telecommunications, finance, and energy sectors.
Through the implementation of iFLYTEK AI Smart Class Solutions, the DSST-iFLYTEk partnership aims to address the shortage of 1.3 million teachers in Indonesia while also bridging the education quality gap across remote areas.
Operating through BTS, the initiative creates an end-to-end ecosystem that automates the entire workflow from teaching to assessment.
“This is a strategic step to bring world-class AI into Indonesia’s education ecosystem and to broaden equitable access to high-quality learning across the country,” said Marlo Budiman, CEO of DSST, in a press release on Friday (6 March 2026).
Also, the BTS joint venture seeks to address the shortage of medical personnel and the fragmentation of health data in Indonesia by deploying AI-based health solutions. Supported by the Spark Medical Large Model, the initiative focuses on increasing capacity of primary health care services and accelerating tuberculosis (TB) screening.
