Sinar Mas, through Yayasan Muslim Sinar Mas, is filling the Ramadan month with a spirit of sharing, one of which is through the waqf of Quran mushafs to the community. The General Chairman of Yayasan Muslim Sinar Mas (YMSM), Saleh Husin, stated that this programme represents the foundation’s long-term commitment to supporting the enhancement of the Muslim community’s faith literacy.

“Our waqf is expected to expand the community’s access to the Quran, including supporting the community’s tadarus activities during Ramadan. However, we also invite that in understanding the contents therein, we refer to the interpretations of competent scholars,” said Saleh Husin when meeting with the executives of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in Jakarta on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.

During this year’s Ramadan, several collaborations took place, partnering with Pesantren Al-Nadlah in Depok, the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry/Environmental Control Agency (BPLH), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Navy Fleet Command (TNI AL), as well as the Special Forces Command (Kopassus) of the Indonesian Army (TNI AD), and the Indonesian Mosque Council.

Meanwhile, through individual figures, waqf was given to the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Qatar from 2015-2020, M. Basri Sidehabi, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Venezuela from 2016-2020, Mochammad Luthfie Witto’eng.

A member of the YMSM Supervisory Board, Suwandi, symbolically handed over a mushaf to the Commander of the Special Forces Command (Kopassus), Lieutenant General TNI Djon Afriandi, in Cijantung, Jakarta, on Friday, 13 March 2026.

Throughout its implementation, this activity received support from the APP Group, as the paper used as the base material for printing all mushafs is the product of PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk Tangerang Mill, namely premium Sinar Tech paper or better known as Quran Paper (QPP). “As a representative of the industrial sector, we are grateful to carry out religious social initiatives using our own products,” said the Daily Chairman of YMSM, Irsyal Yasman.

In its journey, several business pillars and affiliated companies of Sinar Mas have participated in this waqf activity. Since this initiative began in 2008, more than 1.4 million mushafs have been distributed to various regions throughout the Archipelago, including to the outermost and frontier islands.

The Chairman of YMSM, Yan Partawidjaja, stated that as a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, the annual need for Qurans among the Indonesian Muslim community reaches up to two million mushafs. Meanwhile, the printing capacity to meet it is only 400,000 mushafs.

As a result, worship facilities and educational institutions often still use books in damaged condition. The subsequent impact is that more than 72 per cent of Indonesian Muslims are unable to read the Quran. Through waqf, the foundation seeks to contribute to bridging this high need of the community.

“With the waqf, santri and students have access to more decent mushafs, so that the process of reading, studying, and then practising the meanings therein can take place better,” he said.
