Sinar Mas, through the Yayasan Muslim Sinar Mas (YMSM), endows 2,000 Qur’ans through the Indonesian Mosque Council (Dewan Masjid Indonesia, DMI) as part of an effort to strengthen solidarity and care among fellow Muslims during the Ramadan period. ‘Our joint steps to raise the quality of life of the community—economically, socially, and environmentally—are inseparable from what is enshrined in the Quran. Therefore, we hope this waqf will help us enhance the literacy of faith among the people,’ said YMSM Chairman Saleh Husin in a statement in Jakarta on Friday. The Qur’an waqf was handed over symbolically to DMI Chairman Jusuf Kalla in South Jakarta. Going forward, these Qur’anic texts will be distributed by DMI to mosques and prayer rooms in need. Meanwhile, YMSM Vice-Chairman of the Board of Patrons Feri Wibisono said the Quran waqf handover is also a Ramadan occasion for fostering ties. He noted that the foundation has an opportunity to broaden horizons around the development of faith among Sinar Mas employees through empowering places of worship within the work environment. He explained that YMSM within Sinar Mas serves as a platform for practising Islam that is open, tolerant, egalitarian, and compassionate, while externally the foundation works to build cooperation with individuals or organisations with similar intentions. Since 2008, with the support of APP Group, around 1.4 million Qur’ans have been donated through Sinar Mas’ business pillars across various regions, reaching religious institutions, educational entities, communities, and even the TNI-Polri forces in diverse areas, including front-line Nusantara regions.
