Sinar Mas Endows 2,000 Qur'ans Through DMI to Strengthen Faith Literacy
The Sinar Mas Muslim Foundation (YMSM) has once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening solidarity and social care through religious action. This time, YMSM donated waqf of 2,000 Qur’ans through the Dewan Masjid Indonesia (DMI) in an effort to bolster the literacy of faith among Indonesian Muslims.
The symbolic handover was performed by YMSM’s Chairman Saleh Husin to DMI’s Chairman Muhammad Jusuf Kalla in South Jakarta. The event took place during Ramadan and also served as a momentum for inter-institutional fellowship to advance the ummah’s welfare.
YMSM’s Chairman Saleh Husin emphasized that this step is part of a grand effort to raise the quality of life of the people holistically, in economic, social, and environmental terms. He added that the guidelines to achieve this are contained in the values of the Qur’an.
‘Our joint steps to improve the living standards of the umat economically, socially, and environmentally are inseparable from what is enshrined in the Qur’an. Therefore we hope this waqf can help us boost the literacy of faith among the people,’ Saleh Husin said after the symbolic handover.
All Qur’ans will be distributed by DMI to various places of worship in need throughout the country. Attending the event were other YMSM leaders, including Deputy Chairman of the YMSM Supervisory Board Feri Wibisono, Deputy Chairman of the YMSM Supervisory Board Gatot Eddy, YMSM Board Members, and others.
YMSM presents itself as a platform for inclusive, tolerant, and egalitarian Islamic practice within the Sinar Mas milieu and society at large. Feri Wibisono added that the activity is also an important networking forum, where the foundation has the opportunity to broaden its horizons regarding the development of the iman of Sinar Mas people through empowering worship facilities in the work environment.
Since 2008, with APP Group support, Sinar Mas has donated about 1.4 million Qur’ans. This waqf programme has reached various layers of society in a consistent manner through Sinar Mas’s business pillars across the country.
The distribution covers religious institutions, educational entities, communities, and even the Indonesian National Armed Forces and Police, across various regions, including frontier areas. This step is expected to continuously cultivate good values and strengthen national unity through the literacy of the holy book. (H-3)
