Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Sinar Mas Muslim Foundation (YMSM) has once again donated Qurans during the holy month of Ramadan to communities in need, channelled through the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU) and the Alumni Council of the Nahdlatul Ulama Students' Association (IPNU).

"We hope that the opportunity for Muslims, including santri and students, to read, understand and contextually interpret the Quran through communal recitation will be broadened through the waqf donation that takes place today," said YMSM Board of Trustees Chairman Badrodin Haiti in Jakarta on Friday.

The symbolic handover of 1,000 Qurans was made to PBNU General Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf at the PBNU headquarters in Central Jakarta.

Meanwhile, YMSM General Chairman Saleh Husin expressed hope that the efforts of Muslims to cultivate noble character and earn multiplied rewards through Quran recitation during Ramadan would be further supported by the donation of printed copies.

"The popularity, ease of use and durability of printed Qurans remain unmatched by other formats. This consideration is what drives Sinar Mas, together with all its business pillars, to make waqf donations a regular activity," said Saleh, who is also a Managing Director of Sinar Mas.

On a separate occasion, YMSM Deputy Board of Trustees Chairman Feri Wibisono, who is also a former Deputy Attorney General, donated 1,000 Quran copies to Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh, Chairman of the Central Presidium of the IPNU Alumni Council.

The handover ceremonies were witnessed by other foundation officials, including YMSM Deputy Supervisory Board Chairman Gatot Eddy and YMSM Board of Trustees Member Mayerfas, as well as PBNU representatives including PBNU Syuriah Preacher KH Nurul Yaqin Ishaq, PBNU Chairman KH Ulil Abshar Abdalla, and PBNU Deputy Secretary General Ajengan Ginanjar Sya'ban.

PBNU and its affiliated institutions will distribute the 2,000 copies to various mosques, prayer halls, Islamic educational institutions and religious study groups.

YMSM was established to foster open, tolerant, egalitarian and compassionate Islamic practice within the Sinar Mas group, serving as a source of energy to enhance both piety and workplace productivity. The foundation also promotes fellowship and synergy with religious figures and institutions through various social and educational activities.

Since 2008, with the support of APP Group — one of Sinar Mas's business pillars — and other business units spread across various cities, the foundation has donated more than 1.3 million Quran copies, 150,000 Quran reading guides or Juz Amma booklets, and 300 sets of Braille Qurans for the visually impaired.
