Sinar Mas and Techconnect Launch The Genius Math League 2026 to Nurture Indonesia's Young Mathematical Talent

Jakarta, VIVA – Sinar Mas has committed to supporting and developing young talent from primary and secondary school through to university level through The Genius Math League 2026.

Through this competition, Sinar Mas aims to provide a platform for those with an interest and aptitude in mathematics to try their hand, hone their skills and compete.

Organised by TechConnect as part of the Sinar Mas Digital Day 2026 series, The Genius Math League 2026 comes with an approach that differs from typical mathematics competitions.

“Skills development is becoming increasingly important amid the need for talent capable of thinking critically, logically and solving problems,” said Yusnita Febriati of Techconnect in a statement on Monday, 7 September 2026.

She explained that critical thinking, logical thinking and problem-solving skills are needed not only to solve mathematical problems, but are also increasingly relevant competencies for navigating a constantly changing world.

“This competition does not merely place participants according to their educational level; it also gives them space to prove their ability to think and solve mathematical challenges,” she said.

The concept stems from the belief that a person’s ability is not always determined by their age or educational level. A primary or secondary school pupil may well possess greater mathematical ability than a participant at a higher level of education.

“That is why The Genius Math League tests not only calculation skills or mastery of mathematical material, but also the ability to think critically, logically, quickly and accurately, and to solve problems,” said Yusnita.

In many mathematics competitions, participants usually compete against others in the same age group or educational level. The Genius Math League seeks to view ability from a different perspective.

Participants are given the opportunity to test their skills in facing challenges that demand speed, accuracy, focus and strategy.

Under this format, educational level is not the sole indicator of ability. Younger participants still have the chance to demonstrate that they can think and solve mathematical problems at a high level of competition.
