Jakarta, Kompas.com - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno stated that the community work activity carried out at several points in West Jakarta on Sunday (12/4/2026) is part of efforts to anticipate the transitional season and the impacts of El Niño.

He said the community work was conducted simultaneously in eight sub-districts in West Jakarta.

“This community work was carried out simultaneously in eight sub-districts in West Jakarta, namely Kebon Jeruk, Cengkareng, Kalideres, Grogol Petamburan, Kembangan, Palmerah, Tambora, and Taman Sari,” said Rano on Jalan Benda Raya, Kamal, Kalideres, one of the activity locations, on Sunday.

“Yesterday we specifically invited BMKG, we will address the transitional pancaroba season that we often hear about with El Niño. This El Niño is now called ‘Godzilla’, predicted to be much longer and Jakarta or Indonesia much hotter,” he said.

Rano also highlighted the potential increase in dengue fever (DBD) cases due to these conditions.

“Friends, see piles like this, if not cleaned, they can become breeding grounds for DBD mosquitoes and very dangerous for our children,” he stated.

“This includes the transportation of sorted waste, transportation of sludge and normalisation of channels, cleaning of rivers and water bodies, as well as dismantling buildings that cover channels,” he explained.

He added that the activity also covers maintenance of public facilities.

“This activity is also accompanied by tree pruning, minor repairs to road facilities on pedestrian paths, as well as arrangement and tidying of electricity cables,” he concluded.
