Simple living difficult concept
Simple living difficult concept
From Kompas
Upon reading an article titled Plain living: Easier said than
done published in the Jan. 14 issue of this newspaper, I became
immensely annoyed at the behavior of most of our leaders as they
fail to live a simple life, let alone live poorly, while the
majority of our people are still suffering from the squeeze of
the protracted economic crisis. To make matters worse, many
wealthy people shamelessly flaunt their wealth.
Clearly, most of our leaders and most of the rich cannot
empathize with the majority of people now capable of only keeping
body and soul together, leading a life without a future. Their
burdens have become much harder following the hikes in fuel
prices and electricity rates.
The concept of simple living requires our leaders to serve as
role models. Or, perhaps, the community, without having to wait
for examples from the leaders, should immediately start the
simple living campaign themselves.
