Amid regional fiscal pressures and increasingly tight banking competition, Regional Development Banks (BPDs) are relying on the Simpanan Pembangunan Daerah (Simpeda) savings product as the main support for gathering low-cost funds while also driving regional economic growth. Secretary General of the Association of Regional Development Banks (Asbanda), Rokidi, emphasised that Simpeda is not merely a savings product but a unifying force for BPDs across Indonesia. Its broad customer base is seen as an essential foundation for maintaining liquidity and expanding financial inclusion. “It is because of this Simpeda savings product that we from Sabang to Merauke can unite and gather here in Surakarta tonight,” he said, quoted on Sunday (19/4/2026). President Director of Bank Jateng, Bambang Widiyatmoko, noted that Simpeda’s performance has shown a positive trend in recent years. By the end of 2025, the national number of depositors had exceeded 8.9 million customers, growing by around 104 percent compared to the previous year. According to him, this achievement demonstrates that Simpeda is increasingly embedded in the financial activities of the public. “This is an extraordinary and much-needed achievement, showing that Simpeda has become part of empowering the community in making savings and financial transactions,” Bambang stated. This growth is also reflected at the regional level. Bank Jateng recorded an annual increase in Simpeda savings of 12 percent, equivalent to Rp 2.2 trillion. Regional governments are also encouraging improvements in public literacy and saving culture. Head of the Bureau of Regional Development Administration for Central Java, Eny Lestari, assessed that the wise use of banking services will strengthen more inclusive and sustainable economic growth. As part of the strategy to maintain customer loyalty, the Simpeda lottery programme continues to be upheld. The national draw for period II of 2026 was held in Surakarta with a total prize pool of Rp 3 billion. The grand prize of Rp 500 million was won by a customer of Bank Sumsel Babel. Meanwhile, four prizes of Rp 100 million each were claimed by two customers of Bank Jatim, one customer of Bank Sumsel Babel, and one customer of Bank Jateng from Purwodadi. The next draw is scheduled to take place in Bengkulu in August 2026, hosted by Bank Bengkulu.
