Simpeda savings collected by 27 regional development banks (BPD) reached Rp74.86 trillion as of June 2026. These public funds have become one of the retail funding sources for BPDs to carry out their intermediation function and channel financing to the public, MSMEs, and businesses in the regions.

Chairman of the Association of Regional Development Banks (Asbanda) Agus H. Widodo said the sizeable Simpeda balance reflects public trust in BPDs while also playing a role in supporting economic activity in the regions.

“Savings of Rp75 trillion are not just a figure on the balance sheet. Behind them lies public trust,” Agus said in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday (23/8/2026).

According to him, the funds collected from the public are managed prudently by BPDs and then intermediated back in the form of financing. Thus, the growth of third-party funds through Simpeda not only strengthens regional banking liquidity but also has the potential to expand financing capacity for public economic activities.

Agus said the future challenge for Simpeda is not merely increasing the number of accounts or savings balances. BPDs also need to ensure the product remains relevant amid changing public behaviour and developments in the banking industry.

Customers need banking services that are easy, fast, secure, and integrated with various daily transaction needs. For this reason, Asbanda is encouraging BPDs to strengthen the digital experience of Simpeda while expanding its use for payments, transfers, shopping, merchant transactions, and various other financial services.

“Going forward, Simpeda is not enough just as a place to save. We want Simpeda to be closer to people’s daily lives, more modern, more digital, and easier to use, without losing its main strength, namely its closeness to regional communities,” Agus said.

The digital transformation is expected to maintain Simpeda as a healthy and sustainable retail funding source for BPDs. With a strong funding base, the room for BPDs to carry out their intermediation function and support regional economic financing will also become wider.

Asbanda considers Simpeda to have an advantage because it is a joint product of 27 BPDs across Indonesia. Each BPD has an understanding of the economic characteristics, community needs, and business networks in its respective region.
