Jakarta, Kompas.com - The Metro Jaya Regional Police is providing a dispensation for the extension of driver’s licences (SIM) whose validity expires during the holiday commemorating International Labour Day on Friday, 1 May 2026. SIMs that expire on that date can be renewed the following day. This information was shared via the official X account @TMCPoldaMetro regarding adjustments to SIM services during the national holiday and collective leave. “For SIM holders whose validity expires on 1 May 2026, renewal can be carried out on 2 May 2026,” the statement read. SIM services will resume normal operations on Saturday, 2 May 2026. On that day, the public can access all renewal services at the SIM Issuing Units (Satpas), SIM kios, or mobile SIM units. With this policy, SIM holders whose licences expire on 1 May 2026 do not need to obtain a new SIM, as long as the renewal is done on 2 May 2026. Obtaining a SIM is now easier. With the introduction of the National Precise SIM Service (SINAR) from the National Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police, the public can apply for and renew SIMs online without long queues at the SIM Issuing Units (Satpas). For new SIM applicants, registration and theory tests can be done online from home, while practical tests must still be conducted at Satpas. For SIM renewal applicants, the entire process from registration to printing can be done online, and the finished SIM will be delivered directly to the home. For SIM owners whose validity is nearing expiry, renewal can now be done online through the SINAR application with the following steps:
