SOLO, KOMPAS.com - The process of obtaining a motorcycle driving licence (SIM C) requires several steps and conditions that must be met by each applicant. One mandatory requirement is a practical driving test to ensure riders possess safe and rule-compliant driving skills. Interestingly, SIM practical tests are no longer confined to Satpas training tracks but can also be conducted directly on public roads under officer supervision. AKBP Prianggo, Sub-director of Traffic Registration at Central Java Police Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas Polda Jawa Tengah), stated that SIM practical tests in Central Java are conducted on public roads with officer supervision. Regulations permit practical tests to take place at Satpas training grounds or other designated road sections. ‘The tests are conducted under officer supervision,’ Prianggo told Kompas.com recently. He added that on-road practical tests aim to educate riders on traffic etiquette, including maintaining safe following distances. Additionally, the on-road tests are intended to improve compliance with road signs and markings, and proper overtaking techniques. Applicants undergo the test on public roads accompanied by officers. However, the vehicles used remain Satpas training motorcycles. During the on-road test, officers assess the applicant’s driving abilities. ‘Officers will determine whether applicants pass or fail the practical test,’ he said. Meanwhile, Aiptu Timbul Miftahul Ulum, SIM officer at Satlantas Polresta Solo, said on-road tests are conducted after applicants pass the initial practical test in designated Satpas areas. ‘After passing the first test on the designated track, applicants proceed to the on-road exam. This is referred to as the second practical test,’ he told Kompas.com. The on-road practical test ensures SIM C applicants not only master technical riding skills but also understand real-world traffic conditions.
