Silver ingot freed from VAT

JAKARTA (JP): The government has exempted the 10 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) on imports and domestic sales of polio vaccine, silver granule and silver ingot to support the anti-polio campaign and home industries.

The tax exemption is stipulated in Presidential Decree No. 42/1995, which was issued last week.

Tax Director General Fuad Bawazier said that the VAT payment of the polio vaccine, silver granule and silver ingot would be borne by the government.

The exemption of the VAT is essential to supporting the government's program to eradicate polio in the country by 2000 and the development of home industries, Fuad said. (hen)
