Siloam Jambi successfully treats brain aneurysm without open surgery

Siloam Hospitals Jambi has successfully detected and treated a brain aneurysm in a 66-year-old male patient through a neurointervention procedure without open surgery.

Dr Hendra Irawan, a neurologist and neurointervention consultant at Siloam Hospitals Jambi, said on Saturday that the patient arrived with complaints of a sudden, severe headache accompanied by vomiting.

“We found an aneurysm in the blood vessel on the right side of the brain, based on a Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) examination,” he said.

He explained that a brain aneurysm is a condition in which the wall of a blood vessel in the brain weakens and swells like a balloon.

The medical team then performed a coiling procedure to close the aneurysm without open surgery.

The procedure was carried out by inserting a coil through the blood vessel until it reached the location of the aneurysm.

“The aneurysm can be closed with coiling, so the risk of rupture can be prevented and this procedure does not require open surgery on the head,” he said.

The patient’s condition also showed positive progress, with the headache complaints gradually improving.

Siloam Hospitals Jambi reminded the public not to ignore very severe headaches that appear suddenly, especially if accompanied by vomiting, blurred or double vision, a stiff neck, or loss of consciousness.

These symptoms require immediate medical examination to determine the cause and appropriate treatment.
