Medan — Stroke management remains a serious challenge in Indonesia, particularly in regions with high prevalence such as North Sumatra. In this context, the availability of health facilities with fast and integrated treatment standards is a key factor in saving lives. Siloam Hospitals Dhirga Surya Medan has officially secured the Advanced Stroke Centre certification from the World Stroke Organization. This achievement makes it the first private hospital in Indonesia to receive such recognition. Chief Executive Officer of Siloam Hospitals Dhirga Surya Medan, Hartono Teguh Wijaya, described the certification as a commitment to improving the quality of healthcare. “This is not just an award, but our commitment to ensuring patients receive the best stroke care without having to travel abroad,” he said on Friday, 22 May 2026. The success was also supported by cross-specialty medical team collaboration, including neurology, radiology, and neurosurgery, ensuring service standards run optimally. Data show the prevalence of stroke in North Sumatra is around 9.3 percent, making it one of the regions with a significant national caseload. In such conditions, speed of treatment is a key determinant of patient safety.
